1 Samuel 15:22
But Samuel replied,
“What is more pleasing to the Lord:
your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice?
Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
Now go and completely destroy the entire Amalekite nation—men, women, children, babies, cattle, sheep, goats, camels, and donkeys.” 1 Samuel 15:3
He captured Agag, the Amalekite king, but completely destroyed everyone else. Saul and his men spared Agag’s life and kept the best of the sheep and goats, the cattle, the fat calves, and the lambs—everything, in fact, that appealed to them. They destroyed only what was worthless or of poor quality. 1 Samuel 15:8-9
- The Lord sees Saul as unloyal and disobedient
Then the Lord said to Samuel, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” 1 Samuel 15:10-11
Sister, Have you been loyal to God, or have you refused to obey His commands?
Saul says “I did obey the Lord.” 1 Samuel 15:20
Saul thinks he has done the right thing but he has only completed what he thought was right. The Lord had gave Saul a mission to complete and he failed to complete the task. Maybe you think you are doing what God has told you to do, make sure you fully complete the mission.
What Mission has the Lord told you to complete? Have you completely obeyed?
Saul lies to Samuel, at least twice about completing his mission. Maybe in Saul’s mind, he really thought he obeyed the Lord. But the Lord told him to completely destroy everything. Saul half does the job he was given. The Lord desires all our complete obedience. He doesn’t want half of us. He wants all of us.
What pleases the Lord is that we obey his voice.
When we fail to fully and completely obey, we find ourselves rejecting the Lord.
