1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The Lord had sent Samuel to chose one of Jesse’s son as king. Saul had been rejected as king for his disobedience. The Lord instructs Samuel to invite Jesse for sacrifice and tells Samuel that he would show which one of Jesse’s sons would be king. When Samuel arrives he sees Eliab and he believes that he is the one the Lord appointed. The Lord then tells Samuel that he looks not at appearances but he looks at the heart.
Sister, we spend so much time trying to make sure we look our best on the outside. We buy nice outfits, shoes, and handbags. Some women even like to put on make-up to enhance beauty.
We spend so much time worrying about what others think, versus what God thinks.
How much of your time are you spending looking at your heart? Do you like to “dress” your heart of as well? Our inside character is much more important to God. It will be more impactful to others if you showed them a beautiful woman on the inside versus the outside.
What if your heart was the number one concern each day when you got dressed? How would you prepare it for the day? What would you fill your heart with? (hint: His Word) How will the overflow of your heart look when you open your mouth?
How would life be different if Jesus was in your heart? What if your outside appearance became an accessory of concern? Only you and God know what is going on in your heart. We judge someone based on how they look. The Lord knows your heart. What is he seeing right now in your heart?
Focus on the internal, not the external
