Proverbs 26:20 When you run out of wood, the fire goes out; when the gossip ends, the quarrel dies down.
In this bite, we see a picture. There is wood and fire. We all have seen someone start a fire in our life. You must have wood to start the fire and continue to add wood to keep it going. As soon, as the wood is stopped from being added to the fire, it goes out.
We as women, love to talk. God made us that way. We thrive off of connection. What happens when that connection becomes disconnection because of our mouth?
When we gossip, it causes disconnection and confusion.
The second portion of this bite states: when the gossip ends, the quarrel dies down.
Just like the fire and the wood, when you stop adding your words to the gossip mill, the quarreling(arguing)dies down.
Another word for gossip in this verse is whisperer. Are you are whisperer? What things are you sharing about others that you shouldn’t?
Gossip is not a prayer request either, unless you and that other person is coming together to intercede on behalf of that person.
Let us remember, that God is listening to every one of those whispers. The sooner we stop the gossip, the faster the gossip mill stops. No one can say you said anything if the gossips ends with you.
Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
What fires of your mouth, have you kept adding wood? Where in your life do you need to stop adding words to the gossip mill?
James 3:6 MSG
It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.
