Holy Week Red Letter Recap Luke 21

[00:00:34] Hey guys, so I am back today. I am still not feeling my best, so I may sound a little bit different

[00:00:47] but I do need to continue to be obedient to finish out our red letter challenge for

[00:00:53] the book of Luke. And today we will be in Luke 21 and I'll be giving that quick recap,

[00:01:01] so let's jump right in.

[00:01:05] Okay so we will again look 21 with Jesus looking up and seeing like all the rich people putting

[00:01:16] their offerings in at the temple and there's this poor widow who had these two small coins.

[00:01:26] I truly tell you he tells them that this widow has put in more than all the others because

[00:01:33] she was giving out of her poverty and they was given out of their wealth so she gave a sacrifice

[00:01:42] and they was given out of surplus. It's much easier to give when you have a lot in the

[00:01:48] sense but she was a widow so her provision would have already been little so this show

[00:01:54] her dependence on God. There was a season in my life and I call it my two corn season because

[00:02:00] I was taught tiding from a young age like teenager or younger because my grandmother modeled

[00:02:08] that for me. So I knew that when I got my first job that I would give money but I became

[00:02:16] a stay-home mom, a homeschooling mom and so I run a small business from home but a lot

[00:02:24] of times there's not a surplus of income in my life in this season. But there was a particular

[00:02:31] season about two, three years ago that I remember feeling like this woman because the church had

[00:02:41] called for alter offering instead of the plate being passed around. You had to take your offering

[00:02:47] to the front and I knew that I did not have anything other than two small coins. I will say

[00:02:56] at the end of the year when I got my tiding statement God showed me how when you give him your two

[00:03:05] corn season that he will bless you because that year I was able to complete 10% at 100% of the tide

[00:03:14] that I chose to give him. And so I just I think every time I see this I think no matter what you

[00:03:24] should be given to God even if you feel that you are having to make a sacrifice he will provide. He says

[00:03:31] will you not pour out a blessing of windows that you can't even you can't even contain it. So next

[00:03:38] he tells you know to look over there and they are admiring this pretty temple and there's like

[00:03:48] it's so remarkable it's so beautiful whatever and Jesus basically shuts it down and he's like

[00:03:54] not one stone will be left and another one will not be thrown down. And they're like well when

[00:04:02] these things going happen. So Jesus was like telling them the temple was going to be destroyed

[00:04:08] and it did get destroyed in 80 70 when Roman when Roman army burnt it down. So

[00:04:17] in the rest he's predicting the end of Jerusalem in the rest of this chapter and the end of the world.

[00:04:23] So they wanted to know when these things was going to happen. And he said watch out that you are not

[00:04:29] deceived for many will come in my name saying I am he and the time is near we see a increase in that

[00:04:36] in this day right now we have to remember that we look at scripture in the context of the original

[00:04:42] audience and as well how it applies to us. So the original audience was um he's referring to

[00:04:50] the things that's going to happen in Jerusalem but then he's also referring to the things that's

[00:04:54] going to happen as this world as we know it ends so he said don't follow them when you hear

[00:05:01] words and rebellion don't be alarmed these things are necessary it has to take place but the end

[00:05:07] won't come right away. We also have to not take God's delay as an excuse that we had that's already

[00:05:15] in another episode that you know my master not coming um right now we have to live as if he is coming

[00:05:22] right away um nation will rise against nation kingdom against nation we see that violent earthquakes

[00:05:28] families play in various places terrifying sites and signs from heaven but before all these

[00:05:35] things they will lay their hands on you and persecute you they will hand you over in synagogues

[00:05:41] and prisons. And you would be brought before kings and governors because of my name because you choose

[00:05:47] to be Jesus a Jesus follower you will experience persecution and he lets them know you're going

[00:05:56] to be persecuted but use it as an opportunity to witness every follower of Christ will go through

[00:06:02] some form of persecution it might be your family it might be your friends all because of who you

[00:06:08] believe and who the name of Jesus is. And um he said use it as an opportunity to bear witness so when

[00:06:15] somebody is persecuted us for our faith or clowning our God or you misusing his name you have to

[00:06:22] learn how to stand up and he said therefore make up your minds not to prepare your defense ahead

[00:06:28] of time because I'm gonna give you the words and the wisdom look at that y'all I'm gonna give you

[00:06:33] the words in the wisdom so that your adversaries they're not even going to be able to um contradict

[00:06:40] what I'm telling because it's going to be straight true. And that is something we need to hold on to

[00:06:45] so when you get portrayed by your parents your brothers your relatives and friends some of

[00:06:50] y'all was even gonna get killed all his disciples was killed sub-joy.

[00:06:54] Oh we'll be hated by everyone because of my name like there is no other religion

[00:07:01] faith for anything where you get like completely just straight hated because of the name of Jesus

[00:07:08] but he said not one of your hair hairs on your head going to be lost and by your endurance you

[00:07:13] gain your life and so when we talked about that as well to follow Christ is to give up your life

[00:07:19] it's to lay down your life to pick up your cross daily that what is it um you don't hold on to the

[00:07:27] life because you want to lose it but you lose your life to gain and so it's not a matter of you know

[00:07:33] I got a um like a words based salvation we we act out our faith we walk out our faith

[00:07:42] um so when Jerusalem when you see things surrounded around Jerusalem he says the desolation has come

[00:07:47] there then in Judea they must flee to the mountains inside the city they're gonna leave it in the

[00:07:52] country they ain't going to enter it because these are the days of vintage to fulfill all the things that

[00:07:57] is written what he says his word is born like these things had to happen then the things that's

[00:08:03] gonna happen to um this world it's gonna happen and it's just point blank period he said well to

[00:08:10] the pregnant women and nursing mothers because they're gonna be in great distress and the

[00:08:14] wrath against the people they will be killed by the sword led captive Jerusalem will be trampled

[00:08:19] by the Gentiles until the time of all the Gentiles are are fulfilled and in that I saw

[00:08:25] it said that it could and one of the commentaries it could be resulting in um the the destruction

[00:08:34] of Jerusalem as well as the anti-Christ getting ready to set up his image in the Jerusalem temple

[00:08:41] and require everybody to worship him and so anybody who does not worship him will be persecuted

[00:08:48] so next he talks about the coming of the son of man he said there will be signs in the

[00:08:54] sun the moon in the spars we got some bit solar eclipse coming up like in a few weeks like these

[00:09:02] things are that's what I told my kids the other day that nobody can't play they can try to play

[00:09:08] with the weather all they want but can't nobody play with the sun and moon because that belongs to God

[00:09:14] he's sobbing over all of it but they try to do whatever wicked wickedness won't don't have

[00:09:20] nothing new under the sun there will be agonist um agon in the earth among the nations

[00:09:27] or the world of the seas it said people will faint from fear of expectation of the things to come

[00:09:33] on the world because the power of the heavens will be shaken stop right there fear and expectation

[00:09:43] of the things that are coming onto the world are you fearing what is going on around you

[00:09:49] are you fearing the next line the one who is coming to save you but you must submit and surrender

[00:09:56] your life to Christ because the sun of man will be coming on the cloud with power and great glory

[00:10:02] but when the things begin these things begin to take place look at this word stand up and lift

[00:10:08] up your heads because your redemption is near he does not say look back he says stand up and look

[00:10:15] look up take your stand and look up your redemption is near and I kept thinking about the other

[00:10:21] episode when I said about life's wife he reminds us a few weeks a few days ago in the other chapters

[00:10:29] don't look back like why so remember life's wife and now he's telling you to look up so we

[00:10:33] ought to look up to Jesus and not look back on what's going on behind us or to even look forward

[00:10:39] what you think may happen or the fear and the expectation of things that's going to happen because

[00:10:45] they're going to happen he said it in his word these things are going to take place and so he

[00:10:49] leaves with a parable that when you look at a feed tree you realize that the summer is near we know

[00:10:56] allergy suffers when you see them low white trees and them peak um starting to bud you know

[00:11:03] that it is almost time for it pollen to start falling which means that's the indication of spring

[00:11:09] is coming and so we know when the signs happen that the that that season is near and so he's telling

[00:11:16] him this that when you see these things happening recognize that the kingdom of God is near

[00:11:20] truly I tell you when he say that you best believe that's the truth there's this generation

[00:11:25] was certainly not passed away to all things take place heaven and earth will pass away but my words

[00:11:30] will never pass away that's why this word is so important because you might not need your Bible

[00:11:37] in heaven but the words that you have played placed in your heart is forever and then he leaves with

[00:11:44] the need to be watchful he said be on guard so your mind is not dull from the corrals and drunkenness

[00:11:50] in the worry of this life like that turn up life going to get you called slipping because on the day

[00:11:56] when it comes and say it will come unexpectedly like a trap for it will come on all not starting

[00:12:02] people just has the word said it rains on the righteous and the unrighteous and the sun shards

[00:12:07] on the unrighteous and the righteous baby when he comes everybody going to see it says all who

[00:12:13] live on the face of the earth so therefore what was what must the believer do be alert at all times

[00:12:22] praying for strength strength to escape these types of things and to be able to stand before

[00:12:28] the sun of man and he continued on teaching in the evening when he would teach and then he

[00:12:34] would spend the night in the mountain olives and the people will get up there early in the morning

[00:12:39] to come and listen to him I just think that this is a two a two part two that you got to

[00:12:48] be ready to give a witness to those who are lost and dying around you and be watchful

[00:12:56] for the savior who's coming for you I love you ladies I know I sound a little bit

[00:13:03] little too sickly but I know that this word is not going to return boy even with my sinuses

[00:13:09] and all the pressure I got going on in my head but God is sovereign he is faithful and I will stand

[00:13:16] on his word longest my mouth is able to move I am going to tell you about Jesus so I will be back

[00:13:23] tomorrow with a recap for 22 I think that's right 22 as we finish up the book of Luke and
