[00:00:01] If something or someone that is valuable to you was lost, would you search for it?
[00:00:15] I'm Alnesha, the host of this show, GloriBites. GloriBites is a short podcast that encouraged women to taste and see that the lore is good and blessed are you as you take refuge in him.
[00:00:34] So, continuing on our journey through the Red letters as we prepare a heart sign for Easter. We are in Luke chapter 15 today and we're going to look at three different parables about finding something that is lost.
[00:01:01] Okay, so Luke 15 starts out with the Pharisees and scribes so concerned about Jesus sitting with Tabs collectors and sinners.
[00:01:18] Thinking the new living translation is in notorious sinners. So they wanted to know why do he hang out with these type of people and Jesus hung out with these type of people because they were lost.
[00:01:32] And he wanted them to be able to be with him beyond his earthly ministry but in eternity. So Jesus poses them a question that about a shepherd who had lost his sheep like what you go out to look for them.
[00:01:53] Look for the sheep to leave the 99 so the shepherd had a hundred sheep and would leave the one, leave the 99 to search for the one. And this question in that time, you know their livestock was valuable.
[00:02:09] So the answer would have been like, duh yeah we're going to go make sure we don't lose nothing. And so he uses that type of question to pose their hearts.
[00:02:23] And so he says that when he finds the one that he's going to bring it back joyfully to the house and get everybody together family friends, neighbors and rejoice in heaven rejoices over one sinner.
[00:02:37] And then the 99 righteous ones. So then he switches it to the one man who has lost her silver quarry. So the value in the quarry would be the equivalent of a woman's wedding ring in our day.
[00:02:57] So if you were to lose your wedding ring that is worth great value, your spouse puts a lot of money into getting you that ring. If it gets missing, you know you're going to search for it.
[00:03:14] And so this this pairable is this woman that is searching for her valuable coin and she is turned on the light. She's sweeping up the floor to make sure that it is found.
[00:03:24] And so again, we see that once she finds it, she's going to gather up her family friends and tell them like, yeah I found myself. And he's and they're going to come rejoice with her.
[00:03:39] And so the same way that the rejoicing of the angels over one sinner who repents. So that was the first two. And these first two we see the fact that someone had to search the items. You know, the shepherd needed to go find the sheep.
[00:04:00] The one man needed to find her own coin. The corn or the sheep could not come back without assistance. So now we see that in a third pairable. We know this pairable to be the one of the protocol sign.
[00:04:13] And so this man has two sons, the younger one, request is like let me get my inheritance. I want to go on about my way.
[00:04:21] Basically he wanted to go turn up. He wanted to go live his best life and the dad allows it which in this time was not it was not usual because this inheritance was only to be given once the dad had passed away.
[00:04:38] So some of the commentaries and things that I read was like this was a big no no on the dad's part. But nonetheless he gave him the money. He goes out. He'd be partying. He runs up all his money and didn't there's a family.
[00:04:54] And when the family comes around he begins to see like I got a need and gets hired to work where the pigs are and that would have been.
[00:05:05] And that good either because the pigs was known as unclean and a Jewish man is not supposed to be touching an unclean animal. So he was on a bad state altogether, especially in that time using that time frame.
[00:05:22] So when he was with the pigs he began to be like oh I'm hungry. And the pigs doing better than me they eat it from these pies they do I'm better than me. So he comes to his senses and he's like my daddy got all the good stuff my father has all the stuff.
[00:05:38] And he's serving over there eating good everybody eating good and I'm sitting here starving. So I'm going to you know go back home to my father and let him know that I've sent against him.
[00:05:48] I'm no longer worthy to be called his son. So he got up, he went home for her. So he was going to say and he got ready to say it in the dad the father is see his him from a distance.
[00:06:01] And it's filled with compassion and I love this the father ran to him with his arms wide open and kids temp a lot of imagery we always think of it is being the opposite and I was like.
[00:06:16] God runs towards us not away from us. We just got a run towards him and start making that movement while he was far all far away. So even in the midst of our jump when we was far away from Christ he could still sense us and see us coming towards him making that movement.
[00:06:37] So he's the son says you know forgive me and I've sent against heaven and you is not I'm not worthy to be a son and the dad the father responds.
[00:06:47] And he says quit to the servants grab him a ring let's get him some sound let's get him a row let's get some meat going let's basically let's have a party and he said because this son of mine was dead and now he is alive he is lost he was lost but now he is found so now it's time to celebrate.
[00:07:08] And so this older brother watched his this older brother is mad he is angry because he feels like I've been working for you.
[00:07:19] I never disobeyed you and you didn't give me a lot of single goat to celebrate but this son of yours he and even say my brother this son of yours.
[00:07:32] He get to go out there party half him a while time and now he get to come home to an even better celebration.
[00:07:42] And the father response and said you always been with me and everything I have is yours but now we got to celebrate the fact that your brother was dead and now he is alive again and he was lost and now he is found.
[00:07:56] Jesus was telling his parents because these were the actions of the Pharisees just like this older brother they thought they self so worthy and so highly didn't everybody else. And they had no compassion on these sinners these chief sinners that they call them notorious sinners that needed Jesus.
[00:08:15] And so we normally look at the parable about the son that's coming towards the father but we really need to look at the fact that the older brother who did not have any compassion for the loss and we have to ask ourselves how compassionate are we for those who are lost right now.
[00:08:35] And so to finish it off, one of the demonstrations of one of the demonstrations that I see in a difference you know like I said before the first two parables somebody had to go seek them out this parable represents the fact that this is a human he knows right from wrong he has free will he took he wanted his free life he lived it up and he hit rock bottom it was like this thing for me I need to go home and a lot of times you hear testimony like that.
[00:09:03] That people you know oh I bet sleigh or you know I left the church or I wear in a way from God.
[00:09:09] He's always willing to take us back but we have a responsibility to return he is not going to force us to come to him but when you are ready to return to him his arms is going to be wide open his heart is ready for what love and his compassion is always there he is a God of them that demonstrates great patience with us.
[00:09:30] And sometimes it does take rock bottom for people to see God but we are not to get prideful because we found God and there's people in our life that are lost we have to remember them and our prayers we are to remember that why they are still far off God sees them and that he wants them to make that movement to it's him so that he can run and grab them in his arms as well.
[00:09:54] And we cannot get prideful to think that because we say that we see somebody who has a quote unquote greater sin than us in our minds all sin is raised on the same scale and so that person is worthy of repentance.
[00:10:08] So when we see somebody get safe we should rejoice just like the angels in heaven and we should be forgiven like the father and not bitter like the brother so that we can understand that you know that testimony might seem greater than I was on all of us have a purpose in God's eyes but we have to just really rest in the fact that we was once lost and we would say by grace through faith and that is the same perspective we need to have for those around us.
[00:10:35] I hope you have been in coverage today by the reading of this word and I just look forward to continuing on as we celebrate Easter through reading the word of God and seeing his red letters in Jesus name this is a good.
[00:10:50] This was a good one for me because I need to have that perspective that everybody is worthy to be found by God. Make sure that you are subscribed to receive all my latest episodes.
