Red Letters Day Luke 19

[00:00:00] Zaki is when great heights to see Jesus. How far will you go to find Jesus?

[00:00:45] Okay, so Luke chapter 19, we start out with seeing Zaki is the tax collector and Jesus was entering

[00:00:56] in Jericho and Zaki is his chief tax collector. He's very wealthy and he wanted to see who Jesus was.

[00:01:05] He was wealthy by his dorsher but he was a short man so he had to climb up to see Jesus.

[00:01:14] So he went great heights to see Jesus because in the sickle more tree it says that that type of tree would have been about 30 to 40 feet

[00:01:24] but it had low enough branches for him to be able to climb up on.

[00:01:31] Jesus tells him to hurry up Zaki is because I must stay at your house today and so we see that there is this necessity,

[00:01:43] this divine necessity, this divine appointment that Jesus wants to stay with Zaki is.

[00:01:50] So, verse 6 says that he welcomed Jesus joyfully gladly and the crowd on the other hand they was mumbling like you know

[00:02:04] he about to stay with the sinner and Zaki stood up and he was like look Lord, here I give half of my possessions.

[00:02:13] If I have cheated anybody I will pay back four times as much and so just right there it shows that his heart was being changed

[00:02:25] and that he was trying to make restitution for the sins that he has committed against others.

[00:02:32] And so given half when only one fifth was considered generous in that day and then for the repayment was only 20% for distortion

[00:02:43] and he was willing to pay four times the amount and Jesus responds to him by saying today salvation has come to this house for this man too is a son of Abraham.

[00:02:56] For the sinner man came to seek and to save what was lost. Jesus wanted to save Zaki is and Zaki is wanted to see Jesus and so as a result we see the salvation.

[00:03:14] Of this man he welcomed Jesus into his life. He acknowledged his wrong doings.

[00:03:20] He made a means and that is what we must do. We must welcome him. We must acknowledge and repent of our sins and we must be willing to deal with whatever sin that we have in our life to make it right because we cannot stay the same after meeting Jesus

[00:03:39] and repentance will lead you to make a man's will people. He too the reason Jesus said he too is because again we see this pattern in Luke where the gospel is for everyone.

[00:03:53] He too this lost sinner who this task collector who ripping people all getting rich all of he too can be saved.

[00:04:00] There is no one that is too far from the gospel.

[00:04:05] And so as there was listening Jesus tells a parable as he is nearing Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God would appear immediately and Jesus tells them about this nobleman who traveled to a far away country to receive for himself a thought it was a king and then he must he will return.

[00:04:26] He must go away. He is letting them know his picture that he is getting ready to go away and getting ready to go to the cross and then he will return.

[00:04:36] So he calls team service he gives him 10 pounds of silver and he says engage in business into I come back.

[00:04:48] And so in some terms they put this money to work. So his subjects hated him and did not want him to rule over them and then he's returned having received his authority he summons the servants who he had given the money for to see how much they have made the first one had earned 10 more.

[00:05:08] He said well done good and faithful. You've been faithful in the small so you got a 30 over 10 times the second made five more and it had a 30 over five times the third says I kept it in the cloth because I was afraid because you was hard and you collect what you did in deposit and you read what you did not so and he receives condemnation he says right there was out of your mouth has come condemned you.

[00:05:34] And so he said that the master wanted to know you know why did he put the money in the bank because it is you could have received some interest it's the least that you could have done.

[00:05:48] We will have to give a count for the things that we do wrong and the things that we could have done right that we felt to do James 417.

[00:05:58] The master did not accept the excuse we have to be using our gifts well and whatever lot he has given us we must be using it for his glory so he said take away the money from him and give it to the one who has 10 and they like he already got 10 he says that everyone who has more more will be given.

[00:06:18] To that one and the one who does not even have what he has will be taken from him and then it said that the enemies of his who do not want me to rule over them slaughter them in my presence rejecting Jesus has dire consequences I cannot stress this enough there was to be someone who is a ruler over your life.

[00:06:42] If he is the Jesus or something or someone else and he is not going to share his glory and if you don't want to rule over your life and have authority over you look at this verse he says basically take them away you know literally the new name of the new enemy says kill them in front of me he takes it very serious the rejection of him.

[00:07:09] So what we can see in this portion is that we are to use our gifts and resources for the kingdom because we will give account they did not all get the same thing we are not all going to get the same thing we will be judged according to our own measure and that faithfulness to God will be rewarded and unfaithfulness to God will result in loss and lack enemies of God will have eternal consequences bringing them in front killed him in front of me.

[00:07:39] So we will do not want to rule over their life will be severely punished so we move on.

[00:07:49] Okay so finishing up chapter 19 we move on my mic and computer stop working yesterday and I am having to try to recover some of it so some of this message got cut off so we move on to Jesus

[00:08:09] to Jerusalem he grabs him a humble uber by way of donkey that is being reserved for him he says he sends his disciples to get it and said just say the lord needed an owner's hesitate they gave the coat of the donkey in some translations to the disciples they take it back to Jesus they cover it with their clothes.

[00:08:33] They help him get on which for Phil scripture in Zachariah 9.9 they lay more clothes along the road creating that laying out that red carpet such to speak as we're ushering in someone who is the Messiah that they create this path and don't through the amount of olives in this disciples are praising God bless is the king who comes in the name of Jesus peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven.

[00:09:03] And the Pharisees are like wanted Jesus to rebuild his disciples and he said if you keep silent the stones will cry out but as Jesus approached Jerusalem it says that he went for it and he said if you knew the peace it's like if you know the peace that I the Messiah I Jesus was branding to you you wouldn't want to reject this but because you deny me you will have enemies on you on every side.

[00:09:32] And because you did not recognize that you that God had visited you through Jesus.

[00:09:39] And see we have to think about this a lot of people reject Jesus and they try to find peace and substance in everything besides the one who is the Prince of Peace apart from Jesus you have no peace your peace is in him.

[00:09:54] And to not have him is to be surrounded by the enemy you there are two teams there's Satan's team and there's God's team you have to choose what's team team you're going to be on.

[00:10:04] So as he heads into the temple and he's throwing out those who were selling and saying you have my house supposed to be a house of prayer but you have made a den of thieves our bodies are the temple of the Lord with the Holy Spirit reside.

[00:10:16] What does Jesus need to drive out in you to remove what have you made in your temple that is a den of these where are you robbing God from access to your life.

[00:10:28] And so every day he's teaching in the temple and they're trying to find a way to kill him and they could not because people were captivated by what they heard because he is the word John one says in the beginning was the word in the word was with God in the word is God like he is the word.

[00:10:45] So when you have Jesus you have the living word and so they were captivated by him are we captivated by the word of God like we need to make sure that we are hanging on to every piece of the scripture in these last days so that we can have an experience the peace of God.
