[00:00:00] The decision to follow Christ must be made before death. There's no instances in scripture

[00:00:09] that allows for salvation beyond the grave.

[00:00:15] I'm Alnesha, the host of this show, GloriBites. GloriBites is a short podcast that encouraged

[00:00:32] women to taste and see that the Lord is good and blessed are you as you take refuge in him.

[00:00:45] Today's episode is part two of chapter 16 and we're going to take a closer look at the

[00:00:58] author life. I divided this message because this message can be shared.

[00:01:05] Very heavy, can be very heavy for people who don't believe in life after death. So I wanted

[00:01:11] it to be a separate episode. There still will be an episode for today's reading for chapter 17

[00:01:17] and I will record that next and get that out to you, but this episode is specifically about

[00:01:23] the rich man and Lazarus, heaven and hell being confident or being in agony.

[00:01:30] So Luke chapter 16 finishing up that chapter started in verse 19 through 31. We see that Jesus

[00:01:42] is given a story so right off that we are not told that this is a parable most commentaries that I

[00:01:48] checked does not consist of this being a parable because he names the person. He names the beggar

[00:01:58] which was Lazarus. So let's jump right into the text. So there is a rich man who was dressed in purple

[00:02:05] and fine linen and he lived it up in luxury every day and at his gate there was a beggar by the name

[00:02:11] of Lazarus who was going around the table looking for the scraps. His condition was so bad

[00:02:20] physically that it says that the dogs was coming to lick his sores. It makes sure it's done return

[00:02:26] to the thing that he's basically hungry, begging and eel like he's hurting physically. So then there

[00:02:37] comes a time where Lazarus the beggar dies and he is carried to Abraham's side. The rich man also

[00:02:45] died and he is buried in in verse 3 it says in hell. He was in torment and he could see he looked

[00:02:57] up and he could see from far away Lazarus by Abraham's side. And so he calls out to Abraham, Father Abraham

[00:03:09] have pity on me. Sin Lazarus, look at this he's looking at Lazarus as some type of servant to him

[00:03:15] the sense of entitlement even in death. Sin Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my

[00:03:26] tongue because I am an agony in this fire so he is still thinking about himself wanting someone to

[00:03:35] come and take care of his knees in his agony because of his choices that he made while on earth.

[00:03:43] Now he did not go to hell because he was rich. He went to hell because he rejected the law. He

[00:03:49] rejected the word of God that was being given to him. He had an opportunity. So Abraham replies and

[00:03:58] says son, remember in your lifetime you received good things while Lazarus received bad things but

[00:04:05] now he is being comforted here and you are in agony so you see that distinguish that when a believer

[00:04:15] dies they go to be comforted in the arms of Jesus and when they unbeliever dies they are in agony.

[00:04:24] And so he says, emphasize this is the greatest verse in today's text. Besides all of this between us

[00:04:35] is a great chasm that has been fixed so that those who want to go from here to you cannot and nor can

[00:04:45] anyone cross over from there to us. So this rich man takes another approach and he says well if you

[00:04:55] can't give me the water then at least go to my father's house, Sin Lazarus again, again still

[00:05:02] wanting Lazarus to work for him to my brother and five brothers at that let him warn them so that

[00:05:10] they will not also come to this place of torment. He says I beg you so look who became the beggar

[00:05:20] and Abraham replies and says they have Moses and the prophets meaning they have the law, the Old Testament.

[00:05:28] Let them listen to them. The word of God is what saves us. Faith comes by hearing and hearing through

[00:05:35] the word of God. He's like they have the word of God is not a matter of someone coming from the dead.

[00:05:42] He says but if you know in the rich man he's like well if somebody comes from the dead then that's

[00:05:48] going to change their perspective and he's like no, then if they're not listening to the word they're

[00:05:53] not going to be convinced at a miracle of someone being resurrected from the dead. So the rich man had

[00:06:01] everything on this life and he has now lost all these pleasures that he wants new

[00:06:08] and this poor man who had nothing is now experiencing eternal pleasure and comfort. Abraham

[00:06:16] bosom is known as a reference for heaven and this translation it said hail but in some of the other

[00:06:23] translations it said hey these and so there's this divide between comfort and agony. There's this

[00:06:32] chasm, what is this chasm? The Greek word that said it is an impossible gap. Do you think how many

[00:06:41] people are in hell right now wishing that they could cross this chasm, cross this impossible gap?

[00:06:49] Jesus Christ is the only one who will feel that gap to be able to bridge through salvation

[00:06:56] that you don't have to go to hell. They are probably in hell wishing they did not reject Jesus.

[00:07:03] The judgment of hell is forever and so what you reap on this earth you will sow in eternity.

[00:07:11] There is no scripture that shows that God allows salvation after death. His brothers

[00:07:18] have access to the word just like he did and he thought that that would change things by sending

[00:07:24] you know the show that Lazarus had risen but Abraham reminds us that we must listen to the word of God.

[00:07:33] It's not the miracles that changed there that was going to change their heart hearts it would be

[00:07:39] the belief in the word the belief in Christ. We are all going one place of the other there is two

[00:07:46] final destinations and once you get to the grave it's too late. For the righteous there will be

[00:07:53] heaven and there will be comfort but for the unrighteous there will be hell and agony and in

[00:08:00] the second death there will be cast into the great lake of fire. I saw something here that both

[00:08:06] of them had their conscience they recall how life was he used words such as remember

[00:08:11] so he knows the pain that he is in and Lazarus knew the joy and comfort that he was in.

[00:08:19] I often say this that there is no resting in peace apart from the prince of peace. If you do not

[00:08:28] know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior that there has not been a time where you have

[00:08:34] surrendered your life to the Lordship of Jesus that your place will be a place of agony if you do

[00:08:42] not choose Jesus but on the other side there is comfort there is joy there is peace there is

[00:08:50] paradise as he said on the cross to the thief on the cross today you will be in paradise.

[00:08:56] Eternity is real you have to make a decision and that decision can be today if you have not

[00:09:04] trusted in the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior you can find hope and rest and eternal peace

[00:09:11] in him by admitting that you are a sinner in need of salvation by repenting of your sins and saying

[00:09:18] God I don't want to be in this position where I reject you and end up in hell. I know that I'm a

[00:09:26] sinner confessing and believing believing that Jesus is the final finished work that you need

[00:09:36] to get you to heaven he is the only way the way the truth in the life no one comes to the Father

[00:09:42] Jesus believing that he died that he rose again on the third day and that he's coming again

[00:09:50] and confessing with your mouth. Romans 10 tells us that we confess with our mouth and believe

[00:09:56] that we will be saved if you need someone to walk with you and say I just don't understand how it is

[00:10:03] what it means to be saved we are saved by grace through faith there is nothing you can work out

[00:10:10] get yourself together none of that this story is powerful because it lets us know that once it is

[00:10:18] the end it is the end it is finished there is no crossing over there is no sending messages there's

[00:10:23] no nothing it says there is a great it is fixed it has been fixed something that's been fixed by

[00:10:31] the hand of God is unmovable so I know that you may have lost loved ones who may not have known

[00:10:39] and it's easy to think that everybody goes to heaven people just say that everybody does not go to

[00:10:46] heaven guys I say this with love because I love Jesus I love my listeners and if you are already

[00:10:55] saved and you say you know what glory bice this message is not for me there is somebody in your life

[00:11:00] today that needs to be saved because on the other side he said while they were far off

[00:11:06] he could see the mistake of rejecting Jesus don't let that be you or your love one today I love
