Luke 5
Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men
•
Jesus is teaching the Word of God and the people are listening
•
Simon Peter had left his boat and was washing his nets
•
Jesus gets in Simon’s boat and asks Simon to push it out and little from the shore and he continues to teach from the boat
•
After teaching, He told Simon to Put out into the deep water and let down the nets for a catch.
•
We cant pick up what we are not willing to down
•
Simon objects stating that they had worked all night and haven’t caught anything BUT IF YOU SAY SO, I WILL LET DOWN THE NETS
•
Obedience produces blessings. He blesses us so we can bless others
•
They caught so much that their nets began to break and they had to call for help
•
They filled two boats and they were so full they began to break
•
When this happened Simon Peter fell to his knees and told Jesus to get away because he was a sinful man His holiness exposes our sinfulness
•
They were astonished. He had John and James the sons of Zebedee with him
•
Jesus tells Simon “Dont be afraid from now on you will catch men
•
They pulled the boats and left everything and followed him
•
Are you willing to leave everything to follow him?
•
If you say, I will -________ what needs to go and be put down in your life so you can pick up your blessings
I am willing
•
Jesus was in a town and the many was covered with leprosy
•
Same response as Peter. When he saw Jesus he fell to the ground and begged him
Lord, if you are willing you can make me clean only Jesus can make you clean
•
Jesus touched the man and told him “I am willing, Be clean! The law would have considered the man unclean
•
The healing was immediate
•
Jesus ordered him to not tell anyone but go show yourself to the priest and offer sacrifice commanded for your cleansing as a testimony to them a physical testimony vs verbal testimony
•
The news spread and the crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sickness
•
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed
•
When the eyes see Jesus they respond with humility they know him to be a healer before they are healed. This man desires his healing. Jesus was willing to heal and clean the man
•
The healing was a testimony
•
Our healings are not just for us they are for others
•
Again we see the importance of withdrawing and break away from praying like yesterday
•
The greater his platform grew the more he depended on the father
Where do you need healing
Your sins are forgiven
•
Jesus was teaching and the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were there
•
The power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick
•
Some men carrying their disabled friend on a mat tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus
•
When they could not find a way
•
They went up on the roof and lowered him into the middle of the crowd
•
Right in front of Jesus
•
Friend that lay you before Jesus in prayer.
•
Friends that make a way
•
Friends that will not be afraid of the crowd and will stand in the middle with you
•
Friends that stand with you in front of Jesus
•
Jesus saw their faith.
•
Jesus called the man a Friend
•
Your sins are forgiven
•
The Pharisees and the teachers of the law thought Jesus was blaspheming bc only God can forgive sins
•
Jesus knew their thoughts and addressed the heart
•
Why are you thinking these thoughts in your heart?
•
The heart and mind intertwined
•
Is it easier to be healed spiritually or physically?
•
The Son of Man has the authority on Earth to forgive ...
