Red Letters Day 11 Luke 6:17-49

Day 11 Luke 6: 17-49

Jesus is teaching the disciples

The Beatitudes -

God blessed the poor - the Kingdom of God is theirs (spiritually poor)

God blessed the hungry now -they will be satisfied (spiritual appetite)

God blessed those who weep now they will laugh with joy (spiritual grief over sin)

You may be experiencing this now but not always

God blessed the hated, excluded, mocked, cursed-identifited with me the Son of Man

Because he was hated, excluded, mocked, and cursed

When these things happen to you -rejoice

Your reward is in heaven

He reminds them that their ancestors were mistreated as well

The Sorrows

Who does sorrow await?

The rich -you have your only happiness now they have no spiritual wealth

The satisfied and prosperous now time of awful hunger is before you

You who laugh carelessly-laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow

Praised by the crowds- ancestors also praised false prophets

They may have now but will lack later

Divine approval over human praise

Love for Enemies

If you are willing to listen ( to do these you have a willingness

Love your enemies

Do good to those who hate you

Pray for those who curse you

Pray for those who hurt you

Turn the other cheek

Give what you have to anyone who asks

Do for others as you would like to do them

Do you deserve credit for loving those who love you, even sinners do that

If you do good to those who do good to you is that wonderful sinner do that

Lend money to those who can repay even sinners do that

Love your enemies do good to them lend to them don't be concerned if they can repay bc the reward from heaven will be great and you are acting like children on the Most High

Because he is kind to the unthankful and the wicked

Be compassionate bc your Father is compassionate

Judgment

Stop judging and you will not be judged this verse is about discernment

Stop criticizing others or it will come back on you

Forgive others you will be forgiven

Give and you will receive

Your gift will return to you in full measure pressed down and shaken together to make room for more running over

What you use in the measure that the standard measure you will be used

The blind leads the blind to death you need someone who can See to lead those who reject Christ and teach others to do so will end up in destruction

The student is not greater than the teacher the one who works hard will be like the teacher. Christ is our teacher and we are to be like him

Be careful about following the wrong person

Worry about the log in your own eyes vs the speck in your friends

Hyporcrietes one who pretends to be someone else

Deal with you first then you will see well enough to worry about someone else

The Tree and its Fruit

A good tree can't produce bad fruit

Bad trees can't produce good fruit

A tree is identified by the fruit it produces

A good person produces good deeds from a good heart

An evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart

You can identify people who follow God based on what they say and do

Whatever is in your heart determines what you say

Two Foundations

Why do you call me Lord when you won't obey me or do what I say

I will show you what it is like to

1.

Come to me

2.

Listen to my teaching

3.

Obey me

A person who builds their house on a strong foundation when the floodwaters rise and break against the house

It stands bc it well built

Your foundation determines your future

Listening and not obeying

Like a house without a foundation when the flood goes against it, it will crumble into a heap of ruins
